TramShed Theatre Company are delighted to announce a new Patron to join their organisation, musical royalty and northern superstar – Sheridan Smith. Sheridan was recently introduced to TramShed when their Artistic Director – Zac Hackett was chosen to appear on BBC Children in Need and performed with the star.

After hearing all about the charitable work that TramShed do, Sheridan decided to join TramShed in Blackpool during their December 2018 performance week of ‘This is Us’ and delighted members with a meet and greet backstage. Visibly moved by the Inclusive work that takes place at TramShed, Sheridan was delighted to be asked to support the charity as Patron.

Zac Hackett, Artistic Director said, “Meeting Sheridan at Children in Need was an absolute honour, but little did I realise the lasting impact of that introduction and what it would mean for TramShed long term. Our members were so excited to meet Sheridan during ‘This is Us’ and will be talking about it for many years to come. She spent almost ten hours travelling to make the appearance possible and was so patient, kind and a genuinely lovely person. There was no hesitation in the weeks that followed, to ask Sheridan to consider becoming a Patron at TramShed and we are beyond delighted that she has agreed to join our wonderful organisation. The work that takes place at TramShed, is so unique to the local area and vitally important to all those who take part and our local community. It is hoped that with the support of Sheridan, TramShed will gain further recognition, support and continue to grow and thrive”.

Sheridan Smith said, “Thanks to Children in Need I got to meet lovely Zac, I was so moved by what he does with TramShed that I kept in touch and couldn’t wait to see their show in Blackpool and meet all the amazing kids he had told me so much about. I was overwhelmed by the show, the commitment from Zac and his team of volunteers, carers and the children & performers themselves. I was completely blown away. The happiness and joy these wonderful people got from performing took my breath away. When Zac then asked me to be a patron I was honoured and of course immediately agreed. I can’t think of a better company and charity to be involved with. People from all walks of life being given this opportunity to be free, happy and express themselves through arts is the most humbling experience I have ever witnessed. I am so proud to be involved in any way I can and hopefully raise awareness & more support for these selfless amazing people like Zac and his team and for the beautiful angels I saw perform”.
