Healthwatch Blackpool is working with Empowerment Charity to undertake a project to find out what it is like to live with, or be affected by Dementia in Blackpool.
We know that;
Blackpool has the 2nd highest prevalence of Dementia in Lancashire, which is significantly above the National Average.
What we don’t know;
is what it actually feels like for those affected by Dementia and/or their carers’, family, friends, neighbours etc.
- Are people getting the support they need?
- Do they find it easy to access services?
- Does the support available meet the needs of those that need the support?
- What if anything could be done to make things better?
To help answer these questions a team of Peer Researchers will be reaching out to people across Blackpool to conduct surveys, one to one interviews, care circles and other engagement activities. We are aiming to reach out to as many people as we can. Keep an eye out for us at various locations across Blackpool over the next few months and come and have a chat.
You can also Have Your Say online too. A link to our survey can be found at the bottom of this article.
This is a real opportunity for us to give a voice to those people affected by Dementia who are often not heard and for them to have a say in their future care needs.
Please take the time to Have Your Say and to share this information with anyone you think might have an interest in this.
If you would like to get more involved in this project or know of any groups/locations we should come out to, to speak to people affected by Dementia, please do get in touch with us at [email protected] via our website www.healthwatchbackpool.co.uk or by phoning our office on 0300 323 2100.
And please do check back with our website in a few months to see the published report and read what people have said.
