We are delighted to inform you that we will be continuing with delivery of our sewing courses through our ‘Learn 2 Earn’ project, funded by the ESF community fund and managed by WEA. All the courses will be delivered online.

The learners will start with a 5 weeks basic course, during which they will learn how to make face masks, small bags and other small sewing items. This will involve creating a template/pattern for the item being made and then sewing it up using different types of hand stitches, which the learners will learn during the course.

The second course will enable learners to gain intermediate level sewing skills through learning dressmaking skills. They will learn how to create patterns based on personal body measurements and then create garments with the skills they acquire. Learners will receive additional one-to-one support if required.

The learners will also be given one-to-one support around employability, where they will learn how to search for jobs, create CVs and register with HMRC to become self-employed.

The project is aimed at supporting participants from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve skills to support them back into employment, self-employment or further education.

Learners will be provided with a FREE sewing kit and resources required for the courses. They will also be given a digital device on loan with free internet access for the duration of the course, if required.

Participants who wish to join need to be from the 19+ age group and need to be on means tested benefits, for which they will need to provide proof. They may be able to join if they are economically inactive and from a low income family, but only if they can provide a letter from a professional to prove this. All participants need a National Insurance number to join the course.

The course is open to participants throughout Lancashire. Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
