A creative writing project for people who are isolated at home in Blackpool and the Fylde Coast through health or circumstance, who have a passion to write.

 

Writer, published author, and teacher of creative writing, Linda Hampton, is facilitating this project to support people who for whatever reason are isolated in their homes, to develop a regular writing routine and pursue their desire and talent for writing creatively. The taster sessions and 2 sets of 6 week courses will be conducted online through Zoom. All will be free to participants, through support from Arts Council England. The project will culminate in a printed pamphlet collection of writers’ work, an e-booklet and a live online session to an invited audience to showcase work produced.

Who is this project for?
People aged 18yrs and over living in Blackpool and Fylde who are isolated at home through
 disabilities
 low income
 recovering from addiction,
 ex-service personnel
 multiple complex needs
 Mental health challenges
 Rare conditions/compromised immune systems
 Long Covid
 Carers for family members unable to leave home for long periods of time

What does the project include?
 Participants attend ONE taster session
 Participants attend 6 week course ‘Adventures in Creative Writing’ -on a first come first served basis-places limited.
 Participants continue on to 6 week course ‘Imaginations in Creative Writing’
 Participants work is published in a pamphlet and e-book
 Participants work is showcased in an online event to an invited audience

How will the project unfold?
Taster sessions
Linda Hampton is offering taster sessions of 1hr duration online using Zoom which would-be participants may attend and take part in accessible and fun writing exercises to ascertain whether
the course feels right for them.

Application to attend a taster session includes answering a few basic questions and supplying your email address in order that you can be sent the Zoom link for the session.

6 week course-Adventures in Creative Writing
This course will run on Monday evenings and Tuesday afternoons for 6 consecutive weeks in January/February 2022. Participants will be invited to register for just ONE of these courses. Places
limited to 6 on each course.

The course will include writing prompts and exercises, sharing of work, discussion, advice and support for your writing. It will help you to develop a regular writing habit as there will not only be
live writing during sessions but also a task for each week that you complete between sessions. The course will take you on an adventure as you discover and try your hand at different genres of writing- short fiction, poetry, nonfiction, scriptwriting and children’s fiction.

6 week course-Imaginations in Creative Writing
This course will run on Monday evenings and Tuesday afternoons for 6 consecutive weeks in March/April 2022. Participants will be invited to register for just ONE of these courses. This course is
only open to participants who have completed ‘Adventures in Creative Writing’. Places limited to 6 on each course.

This course is a follow on course from ‘Adventures’ and will support you as a writer to delve deeper into writing fiction. As with ‘Adventures’ this course will include writing prompts and exercises,
haring of work, discussion, advice and support for your writing. It will help you to continue with your a regular writing habit with live writing during sessions but also a task for each week that you
complete between sessions. The course will encourage you to go deep into your imagination to write short stories and poetry and maybe even develop ideas for your memoir, a script or your first
novel.

Publication of zine or pamphlet of writers’ work
During the ‘Imaginations’ course you will be encouraged to develop and hone short pieces of poetry or prose that you may like to submit to a pamphlet or collection of the work by writers on this
course. These pieces will be collated and printed in a hard copy publication available for the public to purchase and will also be available as en e-book.

Live reading of writers’ work in an online presentation

After the end of this Imaginations course there will the opportunity to share your work by reading it live to an invited online audience of friends, family and members of the public.
How to apply:
To apply to be a participant on the Write at Home project you need to:
 apply to attend a taster session- see full details above.
 Attend your chosen 1 hr taster session
 Express an interest to join one of the ‘Adventures in Creative Writing’ courses-places will be limited to 6 people per course
 Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
 Once registered on the course, please try to attend as many/all of the sessions as possible.
 At the end of the 6 week ‘Adventures’ course there will be a 2 week break during which you will be encouraged to continue to write
 ‘Imaginations’ is intended as a follow on course and it is strongly expected that you will continue on to participate in this second 6 week course to complete the project.

You will be requested to share your initial thoughts on how you feel about being a writer at the start of the course and also requested to comment on your progress at various stages
during and at the end of each course.
